On May 2, 2013 I was determined to end my life. Never mind the details of this night, but after people started rushing to help me I realized that I am loved. I realized that I don’t have to go through these struggles alone.
The next day I decided that May 2, 2013 would be the last day I would ever harm myself.
On August 10, 2013 I got this tattoo (details here) by then I was already 3 months and 8 days clean.
It is not May 2, 2014, but May 4, 2014. I am here today over a year clean from self harm. I have watched my scars fade and I am able to appreciate the fact that I am able to get through recovery.
You have a choice in life, you can let your past define you, eat you up, and day by day get swallowed from the darkness, or you can take a stand. You can make positive choices for your life and see that everything is worth it. There will be days that will be harder than others, but you need to fight through it. Life is like a boxing match. Life will beat you down and tell you that you can’t do it, that you’ll never make it through. That’s when you look at it right in the face and say “watch me” because this is only the first couple rounds, the match isn’t over and you can win. Through hard struggles seeing the strength you truly have gets harder to see, and as time goes on you forget how strong you really are. Your strength should never perish. So take a deep breath, there will be days where you will forget and people may not see the true strength within you; your strength will always be there and will always be infinite.
